The Daily Impact of Migraine

Migraine can take control of your day before any pain has even arrived.

You recognise the warning signs. Your concentration changes. Light or sound becomes uncomfortable. You feel nauseous, unusually tired or aware that an attack is building.

Work becomes difficult. Screens feel unbearable. Plans are cancelled and everything else has to wait.

Even after the worst has passed, fatigue and brain fog can make it difficult to return to normal.

Between attacks, the uncertainty remains.

You carry medication everywhere. You hesitate before making plans. You worry about managing a busy week, an important meeting, a family occasion or a long journey.

Other people may see you looking well and struggle to understand how much migraine is affecting your life.

You want fewer attacks, fewer lost days and the confidence to make plans without constantly wondering whether migraine will take them away.

A Personal Approach to Migraine Prevention

Migraine is a neurological condition, and your chiropractic care is focused on prevention by identifying and addressing the factors relevant to your individual pattern.

Paul considers how your attacks begin and develop, alongside factors such as sleep, stress, neck stiffness, head tension, workload and previous treatment.

This creates a treatment approach shaped around you rather than a standard migraine protocol.

Your Initial Consultation

A Thorough Assessment. Clear Answers. A Plan for Prevention.

Your first appointment is designed to understand your migraine pattern, assess the factors relevant to you and establish the best way forward.

1. Tell Us What Has Been Happening

Paul will ask how your attacks begin and develop, what you experience before, during and afterwards, and how migraine affects your work and daily life.

He will also review relevant medication, previous treatment, scans or medical investigations.

2. A Specialist Clinical Assessment

For some people, stiffness, restricted movement or tension around the neck and jaw can influence the pattern for some people.

Paul will assess how your neck, upper spine and jaw move, where tension or sensitivity is present, and whether movement or gentle pressure reproduces symptoms you recognise.

If dizziness, visual disturbance or unsteadiness form part of your attacks, he may also assess your balance, eye movements and other neurological signs.

This gives Paul a fuller picture of your migraine pattern and shows where treatment should focus.

3. Explanation and Treatment

Paul will explain what he has found, how it relates to your migraine pattern and how treatment can help with prevention.

Where appropriate, treatment can begin during the same appointment and is included in your consultation fee.

MIGRAINE PREVENTION: Common Questions

Chiropractic care can form part of a personalised migraine prevention plan.
Paul will assess your migraine pattern and the physical factors relevant to you before recommending an appropriate approach.

Yes. A migraine attack may include nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, visual changes, dizziness, fatigue and difficulty concentrating.

Symptoms can begin before the head pain and continue after it has passed.

Migraine prevention focuses on reducing how often attacks happen.

Your care is shaped around your migraine pattern, relevant physical findings, lifestyle demands and the treatment or medication you already use.

Yes. Muscles, joints and nerves in the neck can refer pain into the head.

A neck-related headache may be more likely when pain occurs alongside stiffness, restricted movement or tenderness at the base of the skull. Neck tension can also accompany other headache conditions without being their cause.

People who experience migraine with aura can still be assessed for chiropractic migraine prevention.

New or substantially changed aura symptoms should first be discussed with your GP.

Yes. Continue taking prescribed medication and discuss any proposed changes with the clinician who prescribed it.

Your existing medication and medical care are considered when planning your treatment.

Migraine is usually diagnosed from your symptoms and clinical history rather than a brain scan.

Normal imaging can be reassuring, but it does not make your symptoms any less real or significant.

No. You can book an initial consultation directly.

If further medical investigation or specialist referral is advisable, Paul will explain this clearly.

A headache describes pain in the head. A migraine attack can affect much more, including your vision, concentration, energy, balance and sensitivity to light or sound.
